Back Schools for Low Back Pain

Welcome to the project

Within the project a systematic review was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of back schools for the treatment of low back pain. Furthermore, as a research question aiming at methodological progress of reviews, the applicability of the recently described preferred outcomes for systematic reviews in pain - in this scenario of a non-pharmacological intervention - should be investigated. These outcomes were mainly developed for the utilisation in pharmacological studies (Moore et al. 2010(a)). Randomised controlled trials on adults with low back pain has been included in the review and back schools (i.e. an educational and training program with lessons given to patients by a therapist with the aim of treating low back pain) have been compared with any other intervention or no intervention.

The project “Back schools” was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the program “Clinical Studies/Systematic Reviews” in the field of “Clinical Evaluative Research”.
